Abstract: In the strongcoupling regime of lattice gauge theory, the spin foam representation provides a very direct explanation of confinement. The problem is that strong coupling corresponds to coarse lattice spacings, where the lattice approximation is not considered realistic. Here, we will present an analytic computation with spin foams for weak coupling (i.e. in the continuum limit). It applies to SU(2) and 3 dimensions, and yields a pathintegral over gluon and monopolelike degrees of freedom. Similar pathintegrals were obtained from other representations, and we discuss a possible derivation of confinement from them. We compare this to the derivation of graviton propagators from gravity spin foams.
