Abstract
Gravitational-wave lensing has the potential to open a new observational window onto compact objects, dark matter, and the large-scale structure of the Universe. As gravitational waves propagate across cosmological distances, lensing effects can imprint subtle distortions onto the observed signals, offering new opportunities — and challenges — for gravitational-wave astronomy.
In this talk, I will discuss the phenomenology of gravitational-wave lensing and the challenges involved in identifying lensing signatures in real data. In particular, I will focus on the connection between lensing signatures, waveform modelling uncertainties, and astrophysical interpretation, and how these effects can mimic one another in gravitational-wave observations. I will also present recent developments and results from searches for lensing signatures in data from the LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA collaboration.
