Direct detection experiments are rapidly improving their sensitivity to weak scale Dark Matter.  A particular interesting (and minimal) possibility is that the Dark matter interacts with ordinary matter via the exchange of weak bosons: the W, Z, and Higgs.  Dark matter with substantial coupling to the Higgs boson is already under significant tension from limits on spin-independent scattering.  We comment on the power of  spin-dependent scattering as a probe of Z-mediated dark matter, both in a simple effective theory, and in the so-called Singlet-Doublet Model, which we argue is a useful benchmark.  We also review the case where the cosmology of the WIMP is dominated by co-annihilation processes, focusing on the stop co-annihilation region of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, and discuss prospects for direct detection in this case.

One of the most concrete implications of the discovery of the Higgs boson is that, in the absence of physics beyond the standard model, the long term fate of our universe can now be established through precision calculations. Are we in a metastable minimum of the Higgs potential or the true minimum? If we are in a metastable vacuum, what is its lifetime? To answer these questions, we need to understand tunneling in quantum field theory.

This talk will give an overview of the interesting history of tunneling rate calculations and all of its complications in calculating functional determinants of fluctuations around the bounce solutions. Several problems has persisted for the last four decades, and we present new solutions to these problems that enabled us to calculate exact closed-form expressions of the functional determinant. Applied to the Standard model, we then get the first-ever complete calculation of the lifetime of our universe.

Galaxy clusters represent excellent laboratories to search for Axion-Like Particles (ALPs). They contain magnetic fields which can induce quasi-sinusoidal oscillations in the X-ray spectra of AGNs situated in or behind them. Ultra-deep Chandra observations of the Perseus cluster contain over 5 x 105 counts from the central NGC1275 AGN, and represent an extraordinary dataset for ALP searches. In this talk I will describe how we used these to search for spectral irregularities from the AGN. No irregularities were found at the ~30% level, allowing us to place leading constraints on the ALP-photon mixing parameter gaγγ  <1.5 × 10−12GeV−1 for ma < 10-12 eV. I will move on to discuss the upcoming Athena X-ray Observatory, due for launch in 2028. The X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) instrument onboard will be far better able to constrain ALPs than Chandra, due to its excellent energy resolution. Using the SIXTE simulation software, we estimate that non-observation of spectral modulations for a 200ks observation of NGC1275 will constrain gaγγ  <1.5 × 10−13GeV−1 , an order of magnitude improvement over that derived from Chandra data.

Cosmic-ray anti-deuterium and anti-helium have long been suggested as probes of dark matter, as their secondary astrophysical production was thought extremely scarce. But how does one actually predict the secondary flux? Anti-nuclei are dominantly produced in pp collisions, where laboratory cross section data is lacking. We make a new attempt at tackling this problem by appealing to a scaling law of nuclear coalescence with the physical volume of the hadronic emission region. The same volume is probed by Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) two-particle correlations. We demonstrate the consistency of the scaling law with systems ranging from central and off-axis AA collisions to pA collisions, spanning 3 orders of magnitude in coalescence yield. Extending the volume scaling to the pp system, HBT data allows us to make a new estimate of coalescence, that we test against preliminary ALICE pp data. For anti-helium the resulting cross section is 1-2 orders of magnitude higher than earlier estimates. The astrophysical secondary flux of anti-helium could be within reach of a five-year exposure of AMS02.

Primordial black holes (PBHs) can appear from early Universe dynamics. We show that some or all of heavy element abundance from r-process nucleosynthesis can be produced in interactions of tiny primordial black holes with neutron stars (NSs), if PBHs make up a few percent or more of the dark matter. A PBH captured by a NS will eventually consume it. For a rapidly rotating pulsar, the resulting star spin-up will eject significant amount of cold neutron rich material. The ejection, decompression and decay of nuclear matter can produce electromagnetic transients, like kilonovae and fast radio bursts. Beta decay of ejected material yields positron emission consistent with the observed 511 keV-line from the Galactic Center. Lack of accompanying gravity wave (GW) signal and neutrino emission allows to distinguish these events from supernovae and compact object mergers. Finally, if the consumed star was part of a binary system, long after the event a distinct detectable GW signal from the binary merger with an atypically small solar mass BH will carry information about star's destruction.

Quantum non-demolition measurements performed using qubit-based artificial atoms may enable the next generation of higher mass dark matter axion search experiments.  These QND measurements can precisely determine the amplitude of the photon wave sourced by the dark matter axions while placing the back reaction noise into the phase quadrature. By evading the standard quantum limit of phase-preserving amplifiers, the QND photon can potentially reduce readout noise by orders of magnitude.  Combined with the radio frequency quantum buses to extract the signals, the next generation axion dark matter detector may closely resemble or actually be a multi-qubit quantum computer.

A permanent non-zero electric dipole moment of the free neutron (nEDM) violates CP-symmetry. The search for an nEDM contributes to understanding the Baryon asymmetry,
as well as it has a high discovery potential for Beyond Standard Model physics. The tool of choice to investigate the nEDM are ultracold neutrons (UCN), since they have such low energies that they can be stored in traps and allow observation times of hundreds of seconds.
The distinct feature of TRIUMFs UCN facility is the combination of a neutron spallation source with a superfluid helium UCN converter - unique among all existing and planned UCN sources worldwide. The goal of the UCN project at TRIUMF is to provide a density of several hundreds of UCN per cubic cm to experiments at up to two ports, whereas one will be dedicated to determine the nEDM to the 10-27 e·cm level of precision.
This presentation shall update the audience on the current status of the new UCN facility at TRIUMF. Additionally, a brief status update on the work of the CREMA collaboration (Charge Radius Experiments with Muonic Atoms) shall be given. Recent experiments performing laser spectroscopy on light muonic atoms shed new light on the Proton Radius Puzzle.

Any quantum field theory can be thought of as arising from a perturbed UV conformal field theory, suggesting that information about the full RG flow is encoded in the original CFT. I will discuss ongoing work developing new methods for extracting this information to study strongly-coupled IR dynamics. This method uses a UV basis of conformal Casimir eigenstates to construct the Hamiltonian, which is then truncated at some maximum Casimir eigenvalue and diagonalized to approximate the low energy spectrum of the IR theory. After presenting a general framework which can be applied to CFTs in any number of dimensions, I will then focus on the specific example of scalar field theory, which can be used to study strongly-coupled systems like the 2D and 3D Ising models. Finally, I will discuss the possible application of this framework to gauge theories, including QCD.

In the framework of the ordinary seesaw model with right-handed neutrinos (and nothing else) we show that the total lepton number violating decay of the Higgs doublet into a right-handed neutrino and a standard model lepton can successfully account for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. This is possible thanks to thermal effects shortly before the sphalerons decouple.

We derive in the framework of soft collinear effective field theory (SCET) a Lagrangian describing the t-channel exchange of Glauber quarks, which are incorporated through fermionic potential operators in the effective theory. The Wilson line structure of the operators, which is derived from matching calculations and the symmetries of the effective theory, describe additional soft and collinear emissions from a fermionic t-channel exchange in the forward scattering limit to all orders. Lightcone singularities in the fermionic potential are regulated using a rapidity regulator, whose corresponding renormalization group evolution gives rise to the quark reggeization at amplitude level.

Since the Higgs, the LHC has offered no discoveries despite a sweeping hunt for new resonances. However, many well-motivated new physics models would not turn up in resonance searches, but could instead be uncovered in existing and forthcoming LHC data, by searching for novel angular distributions of Standard Model particles. I will show that in the upcoming years at the LHC, (1) through radiative corrections, dark matter can turn up in dilepton scattering angles in the parametric regions where it would elude conventional missing energy-based searches; the scattering patterns can reveal dark matter's mass, self-conjugation property, spin, and chirality of interactions, (2) through tree level interference, leptoquarks may emerge in dilepton scattering angles long before they would in dedicated direct searches; these angular measurements would also overtake the excellent sensitivities of low-energy precision measurements of atomic parity violation, and (3) Higgs Yukawa couplings to light quarks of the size of the bottom Yukawa could be measured using the Higgstrahlung scattering angle.

Sub-GeV dark matter is a theoretically motivated but largely unexplored paradigm of dark matter. In this talk, I will discuss recent work on the direct detection of sub-GeV dark matter through dark matter-electron scattering. I will present some motivated models that can be probed with these techniques as well as projections for current and near-term noble liquid, semiconductor, and scintillator experiments. Finally, I will discuss some new techniques that may allow us to more robustly discriminate between dark matter signatures and background.
