Danny was born and grew up in Latvia, which was then actually a part of the USSR. He has completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Technion in Haifa, Israel, with Asher Peres as the thesis advisor, finishing his Ph.D. in 2003. Between March 2003 and December 2006 he was a postdoc at PI. This is where his affair with black holes and quantum gravity have begun. Danny joined the faculty of the Macquarie University in Sydney in 2007, and currenly he is an A/Prof at the Department of Physics & Astronomy. Apart from physics Danny's hobbies include sport and reading. Gym, kickboxing, MMA, and diving are among the former, with a normal Sydneysider's addition of sailing and surfing [bad at both]. Mythology, comparative religion and Ancient, Medieval and Far Eastern history feature among the latter.
